Students enjoy a learning environment full of opportunities in which they can experience personal freedom responsibly, making their own decisions.

Monteverde carefully chooses its teaching staff to be engaging, competent and proactive. They are qualified teachers who stay relevant by keeping informed of the latest advances in their field.

During High School our students mature and learn through academic, extracurricular, and sports activities. Monteverde also arranges opportunities for them earn practical experience by taking part in community service, work projects with local businesses, musical events and fairs.

Exposing students to different environments helps them grow into young intelligent adults. The tutorial program and pre-university counseling provide the support and guidance they will require to choose a career path.

SEMESTERS
First Semester

Once a week for two hours students are taught to reaffirm their self image and be confident, exercises that help them to develop self-esteem.

Second Semester

Students discuss family topics, professional challenges, global situations and socioeconomic trends.

Third and Fourth Semesters

Students are tested on personality, aptitude, skill and other aspects of vocational orientation, after which each receives guidance based on individual results.

We also work with certain universities during this evaluation process and bring in professionals from different fields to share their experiences with students taking the same career path.

Fifth and Sixth Semester

During this period students are encouraged to work on their career plan. University admissions officers come to our campus and talk about requisites, financing and scholarships. During this period student spend a lot of time outside the school working for businesses in their chosen field.

Agreements with Universities

Monteverde has agreements with prestigious universities to give seminars, workshops, counseling, entrance exam coaching and scholarships.

Conferences

We enlist the help of universities, specialized schools and independent professionals to give talks, conferences and workshops in which students can find more tools to evaluate their choice of career.

Community Service

The school has designed a Community Service program in which students identify ecological, social or cultural conditions in their community and suggest ways to improve them. Projects like this allow them to set their own agenda or join the efforts of a community aid organization.

University Month

University fair for Monteverde High School students, families and teachers. During this event representatives from universities in and outside Mexico meet with students and families to answer their questions, all in English.

Representatives from the most prestigious universities in Mexico are on campus at Monteverde to answer questions and explain their programs.

The fair is an excellent opportunity for parents and students to discover and discuss what options are available at different universities.

Visitors from participating universities often give interesting workshops designed to familiarize students with the practical aspects of a university career.

University Visit

During their fifth semester students visit universities locally and in other major Mexican cities.

These trips enrich their lives and knowledge of Mexico, showing them different cultures, artistic events, pre-Hispanic ruins and historical buildings.

ENGLISH

High School

High School carries the same certification program to an international level. Language skills are intensified through further teaching in reading, verbal reasoning, grammar and oral communication.

4th Semester: Students take the CAE test (Certificate of Advanced English). Under the accepted Common European Framework of Reference this is a C1 level language certification.

5th Semester: Students take the CPE test (Certificate of Proficiency in English) under the Common European Framework of Reference this is a C2 level language certification and represents the highest proficiency level that a non-native English speaker can be given.

Simultaneously as part of their education, students also receive English language courses in Ethics, World History, Environmental Science, and Biology.

THE MASTERS

Monteverde School also competes every year in the international “The Masters, Insight Into Management” contest held during April in England. When they arrive students are asked to prepare a business project of which they have no prior knowledge. They are coached by teachers from around the world and eventually present their findings to a panel of judges called “The Dragons” who analyze and question their conclusions before declaring a winner.

FRENCH

Students continue to study French as a third language throughout their six semesters at Monteverde to prepare them for the DEL F certificate (Diplòme d’Etudes en Langue Française) B1 and B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for languages. This certification is a non-native speaker requirement for acceptance to French universities or employment in a Francophone business.

In today’s globalized business environment knowing two languages is not enough, speakers of a third language have the advantage. France has renowned universities such as the Sorbonne that offer scholarships for masters and doctorates in different fields.

French is an analytical language, its patterns help to structure thought and develop critical insight, both especially useful in negotiations.

School Workshops

Radio Monteverde is the school’s educational broadcast forum in which students can air their opinions, and ideas.

It is run by a group of High School students and teachers who operate their station as an active media to improve education and exchange opinions with the entire Monteverde community. Programming is cultural and varied but above all it has an excellent selection of music and sports news.
