The Monteverde School opened in the summer of 1996 under the Montessori teaching system and an initial enrollment of fifty preschool aged students. At the time Director and founder, Cecelia Alcantara already had over twenty years of teaching experience.

The school soon outgrew its original facilities as enrollment grew driven by the school’s reputation for providing quality teaching. With joint investment from close friends who also believed in the need for better education starting at a young age, Ms. Alcantara and her husband Roberto Diaz built a new school in one of Cancun’s best areas. By then the number of students had grown to 200.

Our objective was to provide the community with a Humanities Oriented Elementary School using the Monteverde education system, and in 2002 we began building another school on easily accessible Bonampak Avenue.

Monteverde is known for its teaching system that is engaging, comprehensive and personalized. The growth of our school has been measured and constant, following the needs of our students . Enrollment is now more than 600 ranging from Infant Community (1 and 2 years old) to Senior High.
Monteverde is a life project and we believe that the quality of education influences the evolution of a city even a country. Our main objective is to create children and teenagers who are independent, self-assured, knowledgeable and happy with life. Year after year Monteverde makes every effort to improve the quality and performance of its academic and sports facilities.

Monteverde believes in the spirit of humanity, in its essence, the universal dimension that we share with all other human beings of any age, nationality, culture, religion or belief.
We try to touch every member of our community with this philosophy and provide the conditions needed for a healthy development. Our general outlook is humanistic and we follow through with this thinking in all our activities, providing values that reflect a higher quality of education.
Throughout their experience with us students are taught the universal principles of respect, responsibility, loyalty, honesty and freedom.
The Monteverde model forms children and teenagers that are organized, self-aware, independent and who enjoy life. We want to create a true community in which communication, teamwork and respect for others are natural behavior. This philosophy also extends to merging attitudes at home and at school to form well balanced individuals able to shine in society and the world.

Maintain a teaching community whose staff is constantly improving their abilities and knowledge, We are committed to the Humanist philosophy knowing that it will contribute to transforming society by providing children at an early age with the academic and social skills needed to get ahead in a constantly evolving world. Monteverde believes in developing a thirst for knowledge in its students while nurturing their talents, character and values. We want to make them sensitive to the elements of freedom, creativity, responsibility, and self-esteem that will reflect on their relationships within the family and the community in which they live.

Monteverde’s sports facilities are in the Bonampak Avenue campus. They consist of large well lit rooms and broad outdoor spaces suitable for sports activities by students of different ages. The campus is filled with trees, landscaped areas, first-rate courts and contains a small petting zoo cared for by the children. We continue to improve these facilities year after year.
